Alumnae Association Awards

Saint Mary's College is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual awards given by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN. The winners were recognized and awards were distributed Saturday, June 4, at the Reunion Banquet as part of Reunion Weekend.

The following is the list of the awards and the recipients:
Alumnae Achievement Award: Liz Bermingham Lacy '66
Distinguished Alumna Award: Sarah Belanger Earley '71
Humanitas Award: Marilyn Wolter Laboe '61
Outstanding Young Alumna Award: Shannon Culbertson Thompson '06

One Book, One Saint Mary's

President, Jan Cervelli
South Bend-native Jan Cervelli, a dean at The University of Arizona, will serve as the 12th president of Saint Mary’s College. Mary L. Burke ’85, chair of the Board of Trustees, introduced Cervelli as the president-elect this afternoon at a celebratory event on campus. Cervelli will succeed President Carol Ann Mooney who will retire on May 31 after 12 years. Cervelli will begin her term on June 1. She will be formally installed as president at her inauguration in the late fall. Saint Mary's College currently has 1557 undergraduate students and 35 graduate students. Click here to read more!

Saint Mary's & Notre Dame Professors Awarded Grant for PADs Research
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded three Saint Mary’s College science professors and a University of Notre Dame chemistry professor nearly $200,000 to fund four research projects testing the quality of pharmaceuticals and water in developing nations. All the research utilizes a newly patented Paper Analytical Device (PAD) invented by researchers at Saint Mary’s and Notre Dame. Read More
Saint Mary's Receives its 1st Patent for Device, Invented With Notre Dame, That Detects Fake Drugs
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued US Patent No. 9,354,181 to researchers at Saint Mary’s College and the University of Notre Dame who together developed user-friendly devices that detect low-quality pharmaceuticals. It is Saint Mary’s first patent and the first for two of the three professors. These unique Paper Analytical Devices (PADs) can detect multiple chemical components in a pill or capsule, including substitute drugs or “fillers” that may be added in place of an active ingredient. President Jan Cervelli Announces Kara Kelly '96 to Join Her as Special Assistant
Saint Mary’s College President Jan Cervelli announced today that Kara Pavlik Kelly ’96 will join Saint Mary’s College, on July 18, as Special Assistant to the President. Kelly most recently served as Director of Communications in the Office of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Read More
